From ‘All-or-Nothing’ Mindset to ‘Work-in-Progress’ Mindset
Hi! I’m Sunny (Hyo Sun) Lee.
I am an ACE certified personal trainer helping people empower themselves through their fitness journeys.
From CrossFit, pole fitness, to bodybuilding, I have been a fitness enthusiast for more than 10 years. Looking back, I’ve progressed a lot in building a healthy relationship with my body and fitness. I started working out in hopes of “fixing” my big thighs and stopping people from commenting on them. Working out to “fix” my body was not fun. I was just enduring the process for my vague end goal of having slimmer thighs. I repeatedly went back and forth from working out too much and eating “clean” to not working out at all and binge-eating.
Then my mom passed away, and my life turned upside down. I suddenly had to juggle being a parent to my little brother who was a high school senior at the time, while having to manage two restaurants my mom used to run. While I had to put my family and the business before me most of the time, I could focus on myself when I was working out and cooking nutritious food for myself. I started to cherish those moments. I began to appreciate my body for enabling me to do these things, even though it was not the strongest nor the fastest. And when I stayed consistent, I started to see more muscles on my body. I was amazed that my body could do so much more than just getting thinner. That feeling of taking autonomy on my body back was very empowering. I fell in love with bodybuilding.
Working out did not change my life. Learning to use it as a form of self-care and self-empowerment did.
And because it’s an act of self-care for me it will always be an on-going process, not a one-and-done thing. Now, my passion is sharing this mindset and helping people feel stronger inside and out. Teaching my clients how to incorporate fitness into their lives as their self-care routine is my mission.
If you want a trainer who will help you lose X amount of weight as quickly as possible, setting “looking fit” as the ultimate goal and restricting your diet while punishing you with workouts, I am not the trainer you are looking for.
